Bridge Vocabulary
Truss- a
structure that is a spider-web looking structure that contains triangles. Arch- a curved
structure that is made to hold a vertical load. Beam- a flat structure
that rests on pillars. Cable- a cable
is part of a suspension bridge that spans from a tower on the bridge to
the bridge. Deck- the deck
is the surface that all the traffic goes across on. Pier- supports
the bridge at the ends. Pile- a vertical
tower that is put deep into the ground for a foundation of a bridge. Span- a span is
a beam that is supported by two or more support structures. Suspension bridge- is a bridge that has towers that have cables running from the towers to the bridge. |
